Paul Mutonga (born in Muchatha, Kiambaa, Kiambu County; died in 2022) was a prominent Kenyan accordionist and folk musician, best known as a master of traditional Kikuyu Ngogoyo music. After losing his eyesight to measles at eight years old, he continued to pursue music and made the accordion a central element of his storytelling.
Over a career that lasted several decades, Mutonga achieved the rare distinction of performing for four of Kenya's presidents: Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, Daniel arap Moi, Mwai Kibaki, and Uhuru Kenyatta. By blending rhythmic accordion melodies with folk poetry, he kept Central Kenya's historical narratives alive and connected pre-independence musical traditions with the modern era.
