Fanuel Amimo was a Kenyan musician who pioneered the rhythmic Omutibo guitar style, mimicking the traditional Luhya litungu lyre on the fretboard. Leading the Butere Sharpshooters, he fought for control of his music by launching his own African Beat label in 1974 after a fallout with major record companies. Despite losing his sight later in life, the Shianda-born guitarist kept western Kenya's music history alive through hits like "Rosa Nokhwebwe."
